Hobbes in Central Park

Posted in Uncategorized by Andrew Spender on February 26, 2010

We took advantage of the hire car we used to get to Philadelphia last weekend to take Hobbes up to Central Park for an early morning run. Dogs are unofficially allowed to be off their leashes before 9am. It was a painful early start to a Sunday morning, but well worth it to see Hobbes go crazy around the Great Lawn in the snow.

A Snowman is Vacationing in our Freezer

Posted in NYC by Andrew Spender on February 22, 2010

All we can say about this photo is that the snowman is still in the freezer and he makes us smile every time we (well, K really) reaches for the frozen peas. Maybe we’ll take him for a walk in the Summer and freak out a few New Yorkers 🙂

Bike Security NYC-Style

Posted in NYC by Andrew Spender on February 22, 2010

We take our bikes seriously. K rides a Pashley Princess Sovereign and I ride a Brompton M6-L. These are the only bikes still made in England (Moulton, the only other bike I hope to own one day, is owned by Pashley). Riding our bikes in New York is fantastic. It’s a great way to get around the city without the hassle of traffic and it doubles as an extreme sport! If you want a little less adrenaline to pump during your ride, there’s a matrix of cycle routes on the island.  One of the best city cycle paths I have ever ridden runs through the park alongside the Hudson River on the West side of Manhattan for about 6 miles.

Sadly, nice bikes go missing all the time here, just like any other major city. I laughed when I saw these two bikes in an art gallery in the Meat Packing District recently. I think they took bike security just one step too far.

New York Commuter: Step 1 – Relax

Posted in NYC by Andrew Spender on February 6, 2010

It takes a certain mental attitude to ride public transport in the city. Here, B assumes the position and fashion of winter commuting on the bus.
