Thanksgiving Day Parade

Posted in Uncategorized by Andrew Spender on November 29, 2009

We got up early, packed a picnic breakfast and headed north to Central Park West on Thanksgiving morning to watch the Macy’s Day Parade. As usual, the sidewalks were already packed with people who had either slept the night by the roadside or got there super-duper early. We found an elevated spot inside the park which afforded a fairly good view of the balloons and tucked into our flask of hot tea and croissants. But shortly before the start of the parade, we noticed a few people disappearing down a path not far from us. We followed (as one does) and we totally lucked out! For some reason, the grandstand seats right by the side of the road had not been filled, so they let the rabble – namely us and few others —  in to make up the numbers. So we got to see the parade up close and sitting down, a double bonus.

Here’s a video of Kermit the frog to give you a sense of scale. The balloons are big!

Here is a selection of pictures from the 241 photographs we took during the 2 hour parade! You could say we had a good time.
